Brand New Day

We were actually watching the Daily Show/Colbert Report special when the election was called and I was honestly confused for a minute because I couldn't tell if it was a joke or not.

I don't think Obama is going to be our savior or anything, but I do like what he said in his acceptance speech last night: this is a starting point where we all have to work to make things better. I think a lot of people think that the government is going to either create or solve problems, and they don't realize that they themselves are also part of the problem or the solution. Government is only one facet of it.

I also still deplore this two party system we have going. I think it divides the country even more during elections, and it doesn't accurately represent everyone in the country. I know it doesn't accurately represent me—I do not fall neatly into the category of Republican or Democrat. And lets not get me started on how I feel about the outdated electoral college system...!

Let's just enjoy the new direction our country has decided to take. President-elect Obama hammered home the motto "Yes We Can" last night. I think we need to take a page from Google and concentrate on "Don't Be Evil" for a bit now.
