Zabet's Cheap Eats Tip

I should point out that I tend to drastically undersalt my recipes as compared to the average American. Partially that is because I just don't like my soups and stews and beans to be super salty, part of it is out of consideration for my poor, abused heart and HBP. But, I implore you, GIVE IT A TRY first! You can always add more salt later, and I'll not be offended.

My rule of thumb for salting soup is 2 tsp per 6-8 cups of liquid. I don't ever make a soup that uses less than 6 cups of liquid, so this has served me well. I also use low-sodium broth and stock whenever possible. Beans get a little more salt than my regular soups (to taste, which works out to about a half teaspoon for me).
