Zabet's Cheap Eats #6

Cheesy, But In A Good Way

This was a "throw together things from the pantry/fridge" night.

leftover roasted chicken, cut into strips (~$3.00)
1 can Del Monte No Salt Added green beans (including juice; $1.06)
Pinch of salt
1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp Better than Bullion No-Chicken Base
3 cups water
1 lb dry penne pasta ($1.50)
5 slices American cheese (free; Patrick brought them home from a family reunion along with other leftovers)

In a deep skillet with a cover (I used an 11" sauté pan), combine chicken, green beans, salt, Italian seasoning, and bullion. Bring to a boil, stir to mix in bullion.

Add water, bring to a boil. Mix in dry pasta and cover. Reduce heat and simmer 6 minutes.

Stir to make sure the pasta is being evenly cooked. Place cheese slices on top, cover again, and simmer another 6 minutes.

Stir again, replace cover, and simmer until the liquid is absorbed and the pasta is al dente, about another 4 minutes.

Makes 3-4 servings.
Total for the whole shebang: $5.56
Total per serving: $1.85 - $1.39
